I'm recommending places. Which import options should I use?
For a list like "my favourite cafés in Lisbon", where each place matters more than the order you went:
Merge repeated visits on, so each place appears once however often you went.
Sort by date off, then put the stops in the order someone should visit them.
Merge nearby places at Place, so each café is its own stop. Choose Neighbourhood to recommend areas instead of venues.
I got too many or too few stops from my photos. How do I fix it?
Change Merge nearby places. Photos taken closer together than the level you pick become one stop:
None: every photo its own stop
Place: a walk, or places on one street, within 100 m
Neighbourhood: a city break, within 1.6 km
City: several cities, within 20 km
Country: several countries, within 500 km
Too many stops? Go up a level. Too few? Go down one.
Why does a place appear twice on my map?
Merge repeated visits is off, so a place you went back to after going somewhere else is a second stop. That's right for a journey. To show each place once, turn it on, or remove the extra stop.
Why are my stops in the wrong order?
With Sort by date on, stops follow when you took the photos, so a photo with the wrong date (a screenshot, or one saved from a chat) can land in the wrong place. With it off, they follow the order you added them. Either way, press and hold a stop to drag it where it belongs.
Why doesn't my route follow the roads?
Snap to roads was off when you imported, so the legs are drawn as smooth curves between stops. Change a leg's transport to Walking, Cycling or Driving and it follows the streets.
It's an AI Trip Finder option. The photos that aren't picked for the Reel still shape its route, so the line follows where you went between stops, not only from stop to stop.
Which links can I import?
Tap Import from a link on the Create tab and paste one of these:
A Google Maps route: each stop of the route becomes a stop.
A Google Maps place: that one place becomes a stop.
A travel blog post or a tour page that names the places it visits: Travellar reads it and puts each place on the map.
Short links like maps.app.goo.gl work too. Pages you have to log in to see, like Instagram or TikTok, usually can't be read. You need to be signed in to import a link.
I imported a link, but it has only one stop. Why?
The link was to a single place, not a route. In Google Maps, get directions, add every place you went as a stop, then share that route and import its link.
You can also keep this one and add the rest of the places, or your photos, to it.
My link didn't import. What can I do?
It depends on what Travellar says:
"We couldn't read this page": the page needs a login, or doesn't let other apps read it, like Instagram and TikTok. Try the blog post or the Google Maps route the places came from.
"We couldn't find any places on this page": the page doesn't name the places it talks about. Try a page with an itinerary, or pick the places manually.
"You've imported a lot of links in a short time": wait a while and try again. Google Maps links don't count.
How does a GPX or KML file become stops?
Tap Import from file on the Create tab. The track you recorded becomes the route, and the stops come from the file:
With waypoints: each waypoint becomes a stop on the track, with its name.
Without waypoints: a stop at the start and at the end, and more along the way, a few kilometres apart.
Waypoints but no track: each waypoint becomes a stop, and the route is drawn between them.
A GPX file's activity type, like cycling or driving, sets how you travel. Got stops you don't need? Remove them, or add your photos and the places you stopped at.
