Polarsteps tracks your journey and keeps it as a travel journal. Travellar turns a trip into a Reel you shape yourself: the streets you walked, the stops you made and the photos you took at each one.

Street level
A day out covers a few kilometres. Travellar's map zooms in to that scale and names every stop as the route reaches it.
The map zooms in to fit your route, flat or with 3D buildings, so a walk between a few streets reads as clearly as a drive between cities.
Labels name each stop as the route gets there, so your followers always know where you are.
Your photos and videos pop up as the route reaches each place, and every stop gets its name on the map.
Side by side
Polarsteps is a travel journal: it tracks your route, keeps your steps and their photos, and plays them back as a Trip Reel. Travellar is made for the Reel: you build the route from your photos and choose how every stop looks.

Pick Polarsteps to log a long journey as it happens, with a tracker, a journal your family can follow and a printed Travel Book at the end. Pick Travellar to make a Reel of a walk, a day out or a short road trip, where you choose the map style, the route, the place names and the photos at every stop, in the browser or the iOS app. Both are free to start, and they work well together.
Travellar zooms the map to fit the trip, whether it covers a few streets or a few countries, follows the roads and paths between the stops and names each one as the route reaches it. Polarsteps draws the whole journey on its world map, step by step, and can snap the line between steps to the likely overland route. Its Trip Reels fly over the terrain along it, and with Plus, Play mode replays the route in 3D.
Polarsteps tracks the route while you travel, and you add the photos and videos to each step, picking from the ones it suggests. Travellar starts after the trip, from the photos and videos in your camera roll: it reads where and when each one was taken and turns them into stops, in order. It also imports a Google Maps route or a GPX or KML file. Polarsteps doesn't import GPX files.
On the iPhone app, AI Trip Finder spots the trips in your camera roll from when and where you took your photos. It picks the best photos of each and proposes a Reel for every trip. Polarsteps's website doesn't mention anything like it: there, you add the photos to each point yourself.
Both keep several photos and videos at each stop under the place's name: Polarsteps in each step of its journal, as many as you like. Its Trip Reel picks the best of them, and lets you choose the steps, photos, videos, soundtrack and speed. Travellar shows them in the Reel as the route reaches each stop, plays each video with its own sound, and lets you style the map, the route line and the camera.
Travellar runs in the browser, on any computer or phone, and in the iOS app. Polarsteps is an app for iPhone and Android, and you can keep your journal on its website too.
Both are free to start. Polarsteps sells printed Travel Books and Polarsteps Plus, which adds 3D maps, a replay of your route and more map styles in the app. Travellar Premium removes the watermark and the end animation, unlocks every map style, smoother motion, higher resolutions on desktop and AI Trip Finder on iPhone, and starts with a free trial.
Both turn the trip into a page you can share by link or embed on a website. Travellar's is also a recommendation: every stop with its photos and details, for travellers to find and save to their lists.
A walk, a day out or a short road trip, where the streets and the stops are the story. Start from your photos, or let AI Trip Finder spot the trips in your camera roll on the iPhone app and propose a Reel for each. Show several photos at each stop under the place's name, add music, and share the trip as a recommendation too.
A long journey you want to log as it happens: the route tracked for you, a journal friends and family can follow, and a printed Travel Book when you're home. Travellar doesn't track you while you travel.
A long trip with days in each place. Track the journey and keep the journal in Polarsteps, and make a Travellar Reel of each walk or day out from the same photos.
Travellar publishes this page, so it reflects our view. What we say about Polarsteps comes from its website, public comparisons and using the app, checked in October 2026. Apps change, so try the same trip in both before you choose.
